About Us
Ernest Lowe was established 124 years ago and developed into one of the leading hydraulic and pneumatic engineering companies in Southern Africa. We have 14 branches across South Africa for convenient local service. You will find them here.
We distribute, service and refurbish a wide range of world class Hydraulic and Pneumatic product and component brands.
As an engineering company, we are also one of the largest local manufacturers and reconditioners of Hydraulic and Pneumatic cylinders in the region. We specialise in the design and manufacture of two of our own ranges of hydraulic cylinders as well as the Martonair brand of pneumatic cylinders for which we have a licence and a patent. A large part of our production is engaged in manufacture of cylinders to individual customer specifications.

- Competent team who are able to carry out fault finding on hydraulic and pneumatic components and both types of systems in order to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.

Engineering
Our Engineering team consist of dedicated individuals who are experienced in all engineering disciplines relating to our portfolio of products. They take pride in delivering systems which work correctly first time, every time.
We design and build systems according to customer specifications and are capable of handling projects of any size. We can build products ranging from small one-cylinder pneumatic systems to PLC (programmable logic controlled) sheave wheel compensating hydraulic systems.
The vast majority of the systems we create are designed using a CAD (computer aided design) system which offers benefits like improved manufacturing accuracy and reduced project lead times.
Customers across Africa are using our reliable systems and enjoy the benefits of ease of maintenance and durability.
All systems are manufactured and factory acceptance tested at our Boksburg facility from where they are dispatched for installation and commissioning. Every project at Ernest Lowe is managed by an Engineer from conception to final completion. The scope of value-added services offered varies from project to project and includes on-site installation, start up and final commissioning of the project.
Workshop, Warehouse & Delivery
We have a large workshop and warehouse facilities at our premises in Boksburg, Gauteng, South Africa. We despatch products from there to customers in all parts of Southern Africa.
Our well-equipped facilities includes the following:
- Hydraulic testing facilities which have the capability to test systems of up to 400bar
- A honing facility that can hone up to ID:600mm and LG:6m
- Specialists who custom design and custom manufacturing hydraulic cylinders for the customer’s individual requirements. These include repairs on all makes and functions of Hydraulic Cylinders, Valves, Pumps and Motors
